# Brakes

If the lever comes back further than it used to, or you hear a squeal when you brake, bring it in and we'll have a look. We change pads, fluid, discs and hoses, and bleed the system.

Plenty of step-throughs and scooters have a drum brake at the back, so there we change the shoes. When a caliper sticks we clean it out along with the pistons, and if the master cylinder isn't holding we replace it.

Brake fluid draws in moisture over the years, so it needs changing at the intervals in the bike's service book, even when the pads are fine.

If the bars shake or the lever kicks back when you brake, a warped disc is usually to blame. If you can see fluid around the caliper or the master cylinder, though, ring us before you ride it again.
